I'm a 49-year-old Catholic Libertarian in Chevy Chase, Maryland. I work as a regulatory lawyer in downtown Washington, which I guess is a little like selling ice in Hell: there's always plenty of demand. I'm running for Congress (Maryland's 8th District, vs. Chris Van Hollen), and I've recently published a collection of my campaign essays ("Less We Can: The Case for Less Government, More Liberty, More Prosperity, and More Security"). I look forward to a lively exchange of views in this Gulch.

"a regulatory lawyer in downtown Washington"? .... "Less We Can: The Case for Less Government..." Um... perhaps I'm completely confused, but that sounds like a total conflict. ??

Not really. It's certainly true that adding more government regulations makes more work for regulatory lawyers, so perhaps it seems that my self-interest would lead me to "More We Must" instead of "Less We Can." But it's also true that clients who have regulatory problems in Washington often have (as one client memorably phrased it) "a disinclination to the regulatory process." So I find the libertarian political views and the professional commitments mutually reinforcing. The experience I've picked up in my day job is a big part of what makes me a libertarian, and my libertarian attitudes toward regulation are a big asset in helping clients avoid regulatory pitfalls.
