The second movie is some ways in better than the book. In many ways, of course, the book is better / more detailed. But I really enjoyed the modern visual images of the movie. It made it seem more real. Rand does a good job imagining the future, but obviously the movie feels more modern.

The movies are a great way to get people interested in the books.

Totally agree! although I felt the cast for AS2 was to wooden and thought Taylor Shilling so far was the best Dagny.

The wife in the first movie was so far superior that I can't even think of them as the same character. Lillian is supposed to be the perfect gentlelady. The second Lillian was just a bitter bitch.

I showed it to my wife, and she had an interesting comment. She felt like the protagonists, esp Hank Rearden were to slick in this one. She liked the idea that the protagonists were nerds, productive but not good at persuasion. The antagonists were good at persuading people they deserved a handout but no good at actually getting stuff done.

I think the actor playing Rearden is trying not to be wooden, but it comes off as snide, not as someone who gets stuff done and doesn't realize the dangerous politics going on.
