I'm very happy to have landed in the Gulch...I grew up in India. I live in Sydney, Australia. I am a novelist, freelance journalist, and a finance professional.
Welcome Vinay. I am curious about your opinion of the current state of the US economy. I think we are setting ourselves up for a fall that could be worse than the 2008 crash.
Did I miss something? I don't remember a title mentioned. In case my ancient eyes missed something, could someone (Vinay) please tell me the name of your book? Oh, BTW, welcome. I'm the shy one.
john, I didn't click the link up above either. Vinay is a successful writer. His novel, "The Frankenstein Candidate" is doing very well. I have already added it to my queue, but for some reason did not put the title to the author. It looks like a great read.
Thank you all for all those welcome comments and questions. I more than agree with Rich Robinson. With the official deficit being $16 trillion, and off-the-books debt much larger, and with Obama's 2nd term, we have even more subsidies for inefficient energy, fiat money expansion; eventually we are looking at a problem far worse than 2008-09, probably as bad as the Great Depression. Re the novel, here is the link to the digital & paperback versions: http://www.amazon.com/Frankenstein-Candi... Very grateful if you can add it to your stack (Rocky Mountain Pirate). K Haling, what I can say about the novel is that (a) Ayn Rand was obviously a huge philosophical influence during my formative years (b) more recently, a literary influence as well, but in that category there are many others (c) I have always liked internal struggles and journeys of growth (See Rites of Passage movie story genres by Blake Snyder), and that is what I aimed to showcase in this novel. The internal journey is of Democrat Senator Olivia Allen. It's a relatively quick read (350 pages, about 6-8 hours read I think). Stylistically I cannot point to any author I am closest to, other than to say it ought to read almost like a screenplay in parts, in that it focusses more on events and dialogue, and less on visceral prose. Apart from her many other spectacular achievements, Rand had magnificent prose and superlative symbolism in her novels. I must confess I haven't mastered that. For literary technique, I strived for foreshadowing, sub-textual dialogue, and character depth, and hopefully I achieved what I thought was within my grasp.
