Do you ever wonder why the news people give such priority to reporting what ‘celebrities’ say about political subjects? To me that is akin to reporting on an auto mechanic saying something about cancer treatments. Unless someone has credentials, I for one do not care what they think about a topic that is outside their area of expertise. If Meryl Streep (and all the other Hollywood actors) wants to talk about acting, good for her. But she knows no more about politics than any other bloke – probably less then a lot of us, so why does the news media think it needs to report her opinion?

That is my whine for today :-(

Celebrities live in a surreal world with little in common with "normal" folk. Mark Wahlberg has tried to point this out to his fellow actors on the left, that they really have no credibility, but a "bully pulpit". I sincerely hope all of these bloviating, egotistical know-it-alls do stage a strike. Then maybe we will see some outstanding performances from people with real talent, supported by independent producers.

As I watched the superb actress, Meryl Streep, deliver the self-absorbed and pompous "sermon," I was reminded of a quote by Alf Mapp Jr: "No age is unique in producing privileged persons who can happily dichotomize condemnation of their society and enjoyment of its fruits.".

Well, I'm tired of her and her ilk. She could just be another useful idiot. My impression is that she was expressing sadness over what she saw as a political person making fun of a disabled person. Was he doing that? I'm not sure. Would that be offensive? Of course. Beyond that, I couldn't care less. But, of course the media has latched onto it and, you're right - it is a strange paradigm.

This will be a president with the full force of Hollywood and the mainstream media against him to the extend no other has experienced.

I am getting close to avoiding all media. I've tuned out mainstream. Have relied heavily on alternative media the past couple years. Can't really watch any mainstream tv shows anymore - just science stuff and documentaries. The television is really a conduit for garbage into the homes of Americans anymore.

If both the news and entertainment just didn't have that liberal oh those poor things slant to it. My mother would never let me whine and cry and complain and carry on. She would just say "Isn't there something you can do about it, Carol?" I don't want anyone to refer to me as a "poor thing", do you?

It could be that news people feel that celebrities already have name/face recognition causing more people take more notice. Another blessing of 24/7 news.

I think the average educational attainment of your headline actors is just short of High School. I saw an article on this once. What is surprising is that with relatively low exposure to higher education....they are as liberal as they are. Most people get that in College....Maybe it is not that they have been inculcated with liberalism....maybe they are as a group, just ignorant!

I'm happy for Streep that she found acting and has a podium. If not for that stroke of luck which brought fame she could still be a waitress instead of an actress. I find the waitresses of this world to be more enlightened.

I took an acting class, in college, around 1988. The teacher asked what we thought about Streep's acting abilities and I answered she seemed good to me. He said she is a good technical actress, but is not a great one, no emotive ability.

I used to think she was an okay actress until every time I heard her name started to remind me of her role in "The Deer Hunter", which I thought was a gross representation of Vietnam combat veterans. It teaches us how Hollywood actors can actually influence the ignorant about political and historical "facts". The same goes for "Apocalypse Now", perhaps one of the biggest pieces of trash to ever come out of Hollywood. During some discussions with youth of today, some have actually referenced their understanding of Vietnam veterans to these movies. And what's worse is when they argue their understanding based on some movie against someone that's actually been there. Hollywood seems to have much of the same power as that of the press. As a Vietnam vet this false power sickens me a lot more than some of my actual experiences in Vietnam. And think that about when TV started it was predicted that it was just a temporary fad. But then again I sold my initial Starbucks stock after I made a fair little profit, thinking it too was just a fad.
