As Hurricane Sandy barrels down on the east coast, we are reminded of what is really important to us. We look to our families, to our structures, and to our achievements as individuals as we brace ourselves for the worst.

I think it's a little harsh to write with an agenda about a natural weather event such as this as it's happening.

Why? I think it's perfect timing. People need to take care of themselves.

Because the number one concern is life. Events such as this storm place life in immediate danger. The way you combat immediate danger is through concrete methods and suggestions. Abstract thought and agenda comes after or before, where there is time to parse through the details.

It is a sad situation, but those that fare best will be those who were responsible, are prepared, pull up their bootstraps and help themselves and others in need. Waiting for the government to come along and make everything better is only going to prolong their suffering. If you are able bodied and can help your neighbors in need who aren’t then you should do so. You may find that you are repaid for your efforts manifold in time. Even here in my neck of the woods we have 80,000 locally without power today. Trees and limbs are down all over. If any of my neighbors have need of me and my chainsaw I will lend a hand as I have done many times before, because I may find myself in a similar situation at some time. I hope that wasn’t too harsh… I suspect you are primarily commenting on the articles. The other one from the New York Times on the other related thread is quite political.
          Regards,
