Solar Roadways Are BULLSHIT!
Posted by Hiraghm 10 years, 5 months ago to Technology
A Youtube vlog challenging the Solar Roadways project, which raised 2.1 million dollars on Indigogo, as well as another million from U.S. taxpayers.
I know we have some engineers on here, so I'm wondering...
Could electricity be generated using thermocouples under the roadway (I think that's what they're called), turning the friction heat of vehicles passing into electricity...
or simply using the pressure of the vehicles passing to generate electricity (pressure increase/decrease)?
I'm not talking about powering a neighborhood, but maybe enough to power highway lights and traffic lights.
I'm not suggesting it, I'm just curious if it's possible, and then practical.

- 1Posted by livefreely 10 years, 5 months agoI cecked the heat output because I live in the north and found that that alone would consume well past the energy produced.Mark as read | Best of... | Permalink|
- 1Posted by livefreely 10 years, 5 months agoI also asked a question about impact resistance on their Facebook page and they said they went back to their engineers and they said they dropped a ball from the second story and it did not break. Well anyone that knows anything about impact resistance knows that a real test gives a weight resistance like pounds per square inch.Mark as read | Best of... | Permalink|
- 1Posted by livefreely 10 years, 5 months agoA friend of mine posted about solar roadways. 5 minutes later I started investigating the glass alone. First I realized glass is slick when it's wet. I checked out their data and found that a heavy truck travelling 80 mph can't stop.Mark as read | Best of... | Permalink|
