A Pyrrhic Victory:
The altruist collectivists have destroyed, or distorted our founding principles. And with them our prosperity and security.
“Americas founding ideal was the principle of individual rights. Nothing more--and nothing less. The rest—everything that America achieved, everything she became, everything “noble and just,” and heroic, and great, and unprecedented in human history—was the logical consequence of fidelity to that one principle. The first consequence was the principle of political freedom, i.e., an individual’s freedom from physical compulsion, coercion or interference by the government. The next was the economic implementation of political freedom: the system of capitalism.” [“A Preview,” ARL, I, 24, 5.]
“America’s abundance was not created by public sacrifices to “the common good,” but by the productive genius of free men who pursued their own interests and the making of their own private fortunes. They did not starve the people to pay for America’s industrialization. They gave people better jobs, higher wages, and cheaper goods with every new machine they invented, with every scientific discovery or technological advance—and thus the whole country was moving forward and profiting, not suffering, every step of the way.” [“What Is Capitalism?” CUI, 29.]
“The right to life is the source of all rights—and the right to property is their only implementation. Without property rights, no other rights are possible. Since man has to sustain his life by his own effort, the man who has no right to the product of his effort has no means to sustain his life. The man who produces while others dispose of his product, is a slave.
Bear in mind that the right to property is aright to action, like all the others: it is not the right o an object. It is not a guarantee that the man will earn any property, but only a guarantee that he will own it if he earns it. It is the right to gain, to keep, to use and to dispose of material values.” [Man’s Rights,” VOS, 125; pb 94.]
“Tyranny is any political system (whether absolute monarchy or fascism or communism) that does not recognize individual rights (which necessarily include property rights). The overthrow of a political system by force is justified only when it is directed against tyranny; it is an act of self-defense against those who rule by force. For example, the American Revolution.” [From a Symposium,” NL, 96.]
“Politically, mass civil disobedience is appropriate only as a prelude to civil war—as the declaration of a total break with a country’s political institutions.” [The Cashing-In: The Student ‘rebellion,’ ” CUI, 256.]
Our govt. has crossed the line, has made a complete break from our founding principles, our traditional view and the confines of our Constitution in regard to our political institutions. It is not we who have done this. They have declared war upon us in evading the inconveniences of our limited govt. origin. The original intent to limit the govt. has been replaced with confiscatory limits to our property rights, liberty and freedom. Many people think we are safe and secure in our present state, but they are ignorant of history. They believe we can go on this way indefinitely but they are wrong. They believe civil war will never come to this country but they are forgetting it has already occurred here once before. They think the govt. while evading basic economics will be able to make things alright again, that they can fix the economy without total collapse, but they forget about the great depression. It is the impetus for civil conflagration that they force upon us! The civil war, according to many, was fought to free the slaves. Today the slaves are the productive forced to feed the beast. Where is our Lincoln? We need a real life Galt.
So, have the altruist, collectivist, statists won? No. They have won a pyrrhic victory. You can’t fight basic economics. We will change course or become the next Weimar Republic. With or without a “revolution” the upheaval will come. Then we will start again. It is the history of the world…
Respectfully,
O.A.

So, what to do now? My intent is to ignore, to the extent that I can, the emanations from Washington, D.C. I now consider their "laws" to be void and of no force. I also intend to keep my head down. While I don't see the Federal Behemoth as legitimate, it's best not to be the most prominent nail, at least until there is a purpose to be served in being so. Gold & Guns, Food & Water....those will be the essentials come the time the balloon goes up.

      Greetings WingsFaninNM,
What you are doing now. Prepare yourself for the coming breakdown. Feed the beast as little as possible. You are right; they have passed the point of legitimacy. I have no doubt that they are watching/ reading what we say here. We are a small group among our fellow citizens, but if you follow the tenets of objectivism then we cannot initiate violence, so we are not their biggest threat when it comes to violent revolution. However if the pen is mightier than the sword, then we may be their most dangerous foe. If history repeats, as it does then we may see a re-birth. I only hope I live to see it. My America is now but a memory. Ultimately we must re-plant the seeds of Liberty and wait. It will come.
      Regards,
      O.A.

I am doing what I can to lay in the necessary supplies to hold me through any disturbance, and looking for some property in a less-travelled area to obtain as a "hunker down" spot. I believe in the power of the pen as well, and likely will be contributing to a friend's blog soon. It's going to be a primarily "conservative" blog, but I plan to present objectivist/libertarian arguments there. I spent quite a bit of time from the mid 90's through the early 00's debating the gun control question. I've been educating myself since. I just wish my Dogs hadn't chewed on my copy of Von Mises' "Theory of Money and Credit".....but, such is life, right?

Being prepared is always a good plan. It is those who have no plan that will suffer the most. They will panic. They, who were once civil, can become a personal threat when panic sets in. The inner cities will likely be the places of initial mayhem, and if we are fortunate change will occur before it spills into the rural areas. If only Austrian economics were the rule we wouldn’t be in the mess we are in. After the tumult, let us hope the Von Mises’s, Hayek’s etc. are given their due. Those of us who are schooled in their perspective will need to pick up the pieces.
