- 1Posted by $ jbrenner 10 years, 6 months agoMost people in the general public don't realize that, in Communist countries in eastern Europe and the Soviet Union, not only were the people not allowed to travel outside the country, they weren't allowed to leave their own state (usually about 1/2 hour drive in any direction) within their country.
