Don't know if my experience with young Russian people is valid but those that I know from my travels show evidence of their growing up in Russia after the fall of the USSR.
They were/are very susceptible to follow a "strong" man like Putin. They have seen strong gangsters rewarded for ruthlessness and that is a role model of success for them. They are nothing like American young people who still believe in fair play propaganda. The Russian young people may be more in line with free markets than the American young people.
