Who is Dagny Taggart?

Beautiful, tenacious, and fearless, Dagny Taggart has inspired women and men alike for over 50 years.

As Atlas Shrugged Part 3 heads to production, some major decisions still lay ahead. For the past several months, we've read all over the web everything from "Taylor was PERFECT!" to "Samantha IS Dagny!" to "You should have case [INSERT NAME HERE]!"

Now it's time for you to tell us directly. Who is Dagny Taggart?

Taylor from Part 1? Samantha from Part 2? If you had to pick someone else, who would it be? Beyond her ability to embody the character of Dagny Taggart, what else should be considered when casting Dagny? Should she already be an advocate of Ayn Rand's ideas? Should she have at least read Atlas?

Wow, sure looks like Taylor is the preferred choice from all the comments so far, and I have to agree. If you can get her, seems like that would be a good move. All I have to add is that I thought the men were better in #2 (Hank and Francisco especially, pretty much all the rest too), and women in #1 (Dagny and Lillian).

    Hollywood does Ayn Rand?
    Please, you're fun'in with me - right?
All the men are drop dead handsome and all the all all women are drop dead gorgeous.

Not to ponder why you'll never break even, though most certainly appreciate the effort.

Atlas Shrugged is going down all about us and some of us are leaving.

Thanks for the way overpriced stuff, and best of luck with the enterprise.

Clearly it would be ideal to bring back Taylor if possible. She showed the strength and determination essential to the expression of the character of Dagny. Samantha was far too weak. The only alternative I can think of offhand, that is if you could get her, would be Theron. Here again, a strong actress of the right age. I could name a number of others were they the right age, but all are solidly over 40, which is too old for Dagny who should be in the 35-ish range.

Taylor!!! Or Angie Harmon if you could lighten her hair. I couldn't get my John Galt vote to go through, so here is my take on it... Haven't we already seen him inconspicuously in the background? I like him. And if not him, how about Aaron Eckhart?

Taylor was a much stronger actor. Yes, her innocence gave her that drive that made Dagny, Dagny. Not afraid with what she was dealing with. I do believe all of cast 1 was much better that cast 2. After rereading the book again I can picture Taylor as I read.

I also wanted to add that I enjoyed Grant as Hank. Perhaps his "Defiance" schedule would be compatible w/pt 3 shooting?

Taylor hands down! I have seen her before and she seemed to strike the right balance between beauty and the someone who can take hard knocks and come back swinging.

I seem to be one of the few Producers jumping in so far.
Both Taylor and Samantha were good.

I think it is very important that she have read AS.
It's a road map for how the characters think.

Samatha fit the role as a more mature Dagny, and the continuity would be a plus.
