Why the University of Chicago rejects political correctness and 'intellectual safe spaces'
A victory for free speech: Or, How to prepare for the real world.
"Our commitment to academic freedom means that we do not support so-called trigger warnings, we do not cancel invited speakers because their topics might prove controversial and we do not condone the creation of intellectual safe spaces where individuals can retreat from ideas and perspectives at odds with their own."
John (Jay) Ellison, the dean of students.

Me dino says "so-called" because methinks O's true home is where his imagined throne is.
Reading the article, I was reminded of my 17 yr old daughter scolding me for saying arts schools would be less rigorous in their reviews of incoming students as long as the students were paying their way.
It's great that there are still small islands of common sense out there. They might as well kiss their Federal funds goodbye, though.
BTW...I just saw the news that Gonzaga U., of Spokane, just hired the U. of Missouri's "fired" professor, Melissa Click. She's the ditz who tried to have a journalism student physically ejected from a student demonstration that he was covering. I wish them luck with her, even though she says she's changed. The only thing such liberals normally change is their tactics.
It is a rare event today to see a university official
Supporting free speech and honest discourse. Yet from that University we got Bernie Sanders.
I used to think liberals were all about "do your own thing" now they are about everyone doing their thing.

Dobrien
Thank you for your contribution. It is a most unusual and surprising event.
Yes. I know just what you mean.

I understand the 14 y/o saying it's sexist or binaristic to say she's going to want to hang out with boys. Of course she doesn't know what she's talking about. There's a huge difference between an innocent assumption and trying to undermine people based on their supposed group identity. It's easy not to know that at age 14.
Indeed. Thank you for your contribution.
14 is a most difficult age. I remember raising one of my nieces that was living with us at that age- what a handful! :)

I can understand a 14 y/o being confused more than a TA at a major university.
In the case of the TA, the TA was giving socialistic ideas. According to my wife's employee, someone asked polite questions like, "okay, but how would that work if..." That violated her safe space or whatever and she left the class.
