Well, here's the explanation. Damning as it seems, the basis of my doubt is the fact that most of the people who pursued this were people who saw this as an opportunity to take a jab at the USA at large over this. Whether this story is proof or the most amazingly detailed frame job on a single person hardly seems to matter now.

I find it hard to believe but not impossible for all the witness's to have lied for whatever reason its not like they are going to be heros.Its likely true but its not going to change the world is it?.

  True. "What if?" is the big question here. How grand would that be if that sort of thing was uncovered? As I said, though, whether it is true or not pales against the question of why this effort was made in the first place. That's not my exact words, but that was my thrust in this post.

The entire athletics world doesn't know who it is, regarding performance-enhancing substances, so to satisfy the public (and keep the funding spigot open), they make examples of big names. They targeted Ben Johnson, men's 100-meter dash world record setter, who wasn't as clever as Carl Lewis at gaming the system. They likewise targeted Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and more recently, Melky Cabrera and Lance Armstrong. If their mouths were as big and silver-tongued as Carl Lewis,' their achievements too would have gone unchallenged.

It's all bullshit, folks, and it's bad for ya.

    Would that I could have seen the Johnson/Lewis race with Fox' new 3000 frames/sec camera. From Johnson's lightning-fast lifting of the hands for forward momentum, to better suited to the 100 physique and technique, he ran a superior race. It would be especially interesting to see just how fast Johnson's motion began relative to the flame from the starting gun.
