In the Deep to in The Shallows - how a script and movie went wrong

If you've never read a movie script, it's time. The future is video, not text and, for all but those few bibliophiles, who love the feel of a book in their hands, the time is just around the corner when our communications will all be video. If you want to have an impact, now's the time to learn.

"All you want to do is read the 200 word piece on some news event but, you can’t until the video buffers for a minute so some talking head can tell you what you wanted to read.

This wouldn’t be happening if we didn’t want it to."

Yes, I don't want it to, so I turn off autoplay in my browser and never have had the problem again. (When I want to play a video, I click on the Play (>) button that appears instead of the video.)
If only all those assinine mouse-over menus that get in the way of reading could be stopped so easily.
So many of today's web programmers/designers are asshats.

    Thanks for the review!
The movie sounds like another one to miss. Sadly, it has a lot of unentertaining company.

Very few films are very good. It's a tough art and business. It's the future, though. In my contact with young people I find very few willing to wade through a 300 page novel. They'll watch the movie instead. Very few are willing to read a 10 page paper. They'll watch a video of the author lecturing instead. It's not entirely laziness, they're making use of a newer, better technology. Knowing this, if we wish to influence young minds, we can't depend on our polemics to do the job, we need to learn to use film.
