If the cost of living is too high in the CD area, then people can move. This is (at least in theory) a free country. We can move about the country and change jobs with impunity.

I asked a fellow social researcher (circa '97-ish) about people not moving out of ultra-depressed inner-city slums. Most of his research was based on why blacks would not leave inner-city areas and/or adapt to changes in society like all of the other racial groups seem to have done.

He reminded me of an axiom we all know to be true: You will not see the things you will not look for.

Wal-Mart is a private company (meaning not a government entity). They should simply walk away from the DC area until this stupidity is dropped -- permanently.

The folks who cannot earn a "living wage" where they are, should find a place where they *can* earn one. But these folks (meaning the folks in the DC area) just seem to be stuck in one place because they simply will not see another option.

    "Walmart Shrugs"

    For good reason.

They have been targeted, as usual.

The unions are behind this, and one day the union workers will wake up and smell the coffee....

Does the Mayor and Council Members in DC actually think this makes Washington,DC look good? Another embarrassment for our capital. I admit it would be humorous if the council voted for living wage to be paid by WalMart and the Mayor vetoed it.
