I well remember an argument I had with an ardent, liberal feminist. She took the standard position on abortion, arguing that women had the right to control their own bodies. I agreed, and then asked her why I didn't have the right to control not just my body, but my mind, by keeping what I had earned in voluntary transactions in the market. Why, in other words, was I subject to the income tax? She said, "I just have a visceral response to the abortion issue," and she changed the subject. Sadly, but not surprisingly, that is the kind of response I have gotten from statist to most of my questions, since way back in high school. As we well know, if one refuses to answer a question about one's position, that position is probably wrong.

I've often contended that Roe V Wade should apply to seatbelts... "It's my body", after all.

Yet they remain mandatory and I'm punished if I don't have that potential noose across my throat when driving.
