I think that he is so anti-war that having to speak of its just causes was distasteful to him, hence his tongue just couldn't abide by staying in his mouth. That being said, I am tired of liberating people who will not fight for their freedoms. Let them take the first meaningful steps, let them at least offbalance their government before we mire ourselves in their problems.
