Hi. My name is... Richard and this is a brief explanation of my journey to the Gulch.

I suppose like many here I was a person going through life slightly dissatisfied and confused about why things seemed upside down. Those who were creative and driven seemed to have barriers and social stigmas placed in their path. I didnt spend the time, frankly, thinking too much about it but often read articles by people I found I agreed with and many, during their writing, referred to or quoted 'Atlas Shrugged'. Eventually I decided to buy it (oh yes I paid for it) and read it.
The experience was borderline spiritual as this wonderful but brilliantly simple structure was built before my eyes as I passed through the story. It felt like a great burden had been lifted to see clearly at last and understand that my subconcious had been telling me this for years.

Here in the UK the moochers vote for the collectivist parties to live lifestyles they themselves have not earned. The looters are the political, academic and regulatory establishment who extract money and favours from the producers at every turn. Simultaneously they present themselves as generous and benevolent as they distribute the value other people earned. I knew I had always resented the process but now had the intellectual confirmation that my gut feelings were not only accurate but more importantly, at least to me, they were just.
My Father was an illegitimate boy from the poorer areas of our home city, Derby, and yet he made a success of himself through purely his own will and talent. He also never cheated or took a short cut on anyone, in personal life or business. The business he built I took over in 2002 and, honestly, felt a little guilty at the start realising how fortunate I'd been to have that opportunity and how few people this happens to. I decided that provided you are honest, offer value and treat others fairly then there should be no room for guilt. I am very lucky but I am a producer and I am proud of that.
Since reading Atlas Shrugged I have also managed to convert a number of other souls by continued harassement until they finally relented and read it. Once they had done that they understood and furthermore believed.
