Paul Ryan & the VP debate

I was sharply disappointing with the VP debate and Ryans Performance. It served more to convince me that he is not the fan of Ayn Rand and Objectivism that he claims to be. I do not recall a single moment where I thought any of the philosophy he prescribes to came through in his words.

What were your thoughts?

Romney and Ryan are playing the game well indeed. It is not always what you say but rather how you say it and what you do. If they win, we win plain and simple. Can't make everyone happy but in a side by side comparison... the mind's the thing.

Ryan is the number 2 man on the ticket which means he is constrained by the wishes of the Romney campaign team. They don't want Ryan to become the story. Looking forward to seeing them elected and how they perform. That will tell the story. We need a change!

Representative Ryan was deferential to the elder statesmen while VP Biden was rude and condescending. I had hoped for more from Mr. Ryan, but I got the feeling he felt he must play some of his cards close to the vest if he is to be on the winning side. I was surprised that the VP was contained enough to avoid any major gaffes, but many of his “facts” were mere sophistry…

It reminded me of a Bible passage...Proverbs 29:9 "If a wise man has an argument with a fool, the fool only rages and laughs, and there is no quiet.."

That's spot on for anytime one get's into a discussion with someone with a liberal mindset - they only believe that the truth is anything that proceeds from their mouth.

Why would anyone think he is an Objectivist at this point? He is a republican at the federal level, which is no different from being a democrat at the federal level. They only want more government intrusion into our lives. The only exception to this was Ron Paul, and look how he was treated by the tsa in Florida immediately after romney was got the "nomination".....

I like Ron Paul, he does not have the charisma or diplomatic skills to win people over to his way of thinking.

I was hoping Ryan would at least use some of the sound arguments presented for capitalism in Ayn Rands book about capitalism. That is likely the only piece of objectivity he really agrees with based on past voting. I thought that if he really was a Ayn Rand fan he may have used some of the material. There was opportunity but no dice. He would have won rather than tie had he done so.

I thought similar things. He obviously was playing the campaign line, which goes against Atlas in a lot of ways. He debated well, pushed Biden off his mark many times, but the machine has him, and that is sad.

I expect campaign line play, he is not the person running for president and he has to take some, if not all of his marching orders from Romney. I love Atlas, but it is a fantasy reality does not always allow such complete absolute adherence to ones values. I was hoping that those values, if he truly was into Ayn Rand, would come through some, at least on economy where many of her arguments could still be used, nearly word for word today.

I am coming to treat with suspect every one that publicly professes to be an Ayn Rand devotee....especially a politician!
My suspicion is that that have zeroed in on the principle of "self reliance" and thinking that everyone has the ability to "lift themselves up by their own bootstraps"...like Paul Ryan!
