I read Jacoby, lamenting the hard line litmus test on immigration, and I think he is wrong on some counts. Immigration policy has become a sort of litmus test to be a "conservative", true, but he thinks it is wrong to have this view as a longtime conservative. I defend the Constitution on this.
Jacoby, "The vast majority of immigrants repay their adopted homeland with energy, enthusiasm, hard work, and new wealth," No longer is this all true. Thus, the disconnect. Immigration is a freeforall now. Gone are the days that you came here, fell in love with the country, assimilated, and you and your children were All American. Many Immigrants, Legal and illegal, do none of this. And it takes 2-3 generations for their children to "assimilate", and even learn English. He calls it Immigration Bashing, without qualification. We do not Bash, we are just brutally honest, as that is the best way to realize a problem and find a solution. I have no angst for anyone, including immigrants. I have a lot against breaking laws, not enforcing policy, and Sanctuary Cities. Why did we as a country stop all Immigration for 40 years? Assimilation. We have not abandoned the "Shinning City On A Hill". We simply want the hill be American. Even the H1B Visa program is a joke, as Disney is hiring cheap Indian Tech workers, and firing higher paid domestics. Jacoby calls himself an open boarder dissident. This would make you an anomaly, as open boarders has never been the case, since the late 19th Century.
Lets face it, Immigration, legal and illegal, is out of control. Reason says stop, wait, and start over.
