Ideally, the actor playing John Galt in Atlas Shrugged Part 3 will appear to have jumped right off of the pages of Atlas Shrugged. However, in our quest to find the perfect John Galt, some tough choices may have to be made. That's where you come in.

If you had to choose, which would you consider the number one priority in casting John Galt?

A. As long as the actor looks and acts like John Galt, I don't care what his personal beliefs are.
B. The actor needs to possess a deep understanding of, and passion for, Ayn Rand's ideas first and foremost.

Definitely A. Get the best actor for the role, regardless of their personal beliefs. I don't know if you have the budget, but I think Jonathan Rhys-Myers would be perfect! You need someone who's screen presence is INTENSE without saying a word.

I picture John Galt as confident, in good physical condition, about 40-45. He is quietly strong. Total adherence to his decisions and beliefs.
Laughs easily and is full of joy because he knows he creates his world.
The actors personal beliefs are irrelevant IF he can portray the person John Galt would have to be according to Ayn Rand.

Number one problem with both the first and second move has always been bad casting and directing. There not people you what to follow. They don’t need to be followers of the book. They need to be really good at there job. Harry potter really can’t cast spells. He’s an actor…..

I believe casting John Galt to be too critical to waste on the personal beliefs of the actor. We need to cast someone who looks the part and can make the case Galt has to make in his farewell to America speech in a powerful and compelling way. I worry that casting an unknown face would be a mistake. I know the budget is limited but on this one you should get someone who is well known and well liked. Having the star power behind this film could also help it to do better than it's predecessors. Also critical, get Taylor Schilling back for Dagney. Samantha Mathis didn't do it for me.

How about Hugh Jackman or Jim Caviesal as John Galt. Brad Pitt would make a wonderful Ragnar, assuming he will be included in part three. Let's have the original players back as Dagny, et al.

    Paul Johannson (Part I)
    Hugh Jackman
    Jim Caveziel
    Eric Dane
    Eric Stoltz

He needs to exude confidence, intelligence, leadership, AND sex appeal.

I think it kind of someone in the middle. I think the actor need to understand the ideas of AS but must also act the part. ASP 3 is Galt's movie.

The actor should embody the spirit of the written character. The best way is to have an actor who believes in the author's viewpoint and therefore can do the role with justice.

I second James Caviezel. He was quite good as
Jesus Christ with Mel Gibson directing. He also plays quite well on "Person of Interest" Soft spoken but tough as nails.

I've been reading AS since I was 13 years old. I always pictured Robert Redford as Galt. So I'd have to pick Brad Pitt since he reminds me of Redford. All I ask is....please please get rid of the actress who played Dagny is AS2. She physically didn't fit the part and her acting was hollow. She was totally unbelievable trying to run a transcontinental railroad.
