Ideally, the actor playing John Galt in Atlas Shrugged Part 3 will appear to have jumped right off of the pages of Atlas Shrugged. However, in our quest to find the perfect John Galt, some tough choices may have to be made. That's where you come in.

If you had to choose, which would you consider the number one priority in casting John Galt?

A. As long as the actor looks and acts like John Galt, I don't care what his personal beliefs are.
B. The actor needs to possess a deep understanding of, and passion for, Ayn Rand's ideas first and foremost.

B- Please please please select someone one a convincing ability to portfay the part, not based on looks. I still haven't forgiven Ayn for Gary Cooper in Fountainhead!

I've always pictured John as rugged, handsome, sandy blonde hair, tall, Adonis like. Physically beautiful as well as a mental genius. That is my ideal fantasy man. And now, who could play that? I used to think Brad Pitt, but he has always been too much of a 'pretty boy'. And now he is too long in the tooth to be Galt. So now, the person who most fulfills my ideal Galt is Aaron Eckhart. Ruggedly handsome, the jawline of pure strength, very athletic, and he can act, which is frankly what the producers are looking for. Watch "Thank You for
Smoking" and you will see Galt.
But, if you get someone like Eckhart, Dagny would need to be recast, because Samantha Mathis would look old next to him. I like Taylor Schilling, but she was too much of a lightweight to pull off Dagny. About the only person I feel could have pulled off Dagny would have been Cate Blanchett. But now, she is probably too old. So that is my two cents worth. Just please, please don't cast D.B. Sweeney as Galt. I don't think I could bear to watch part three if that happens.

An actor is paid to act; regardless of their personal beliefs/views. (If the actor is that strong against something, they probably won't want to be cast).
An audience pays to watch someone else's interpretation; it's really that simple.
If you're too afraid of not being handed your own mind and thoughts via actor(s); then you should stay home and not stress out on what wasn't correctly adapted by your interpretation.
    Haha....the questions are awesome!!
(James Franco and Nick Nolte are on my list!)

I've never heard of half the people suggested. Guess I don't watch the idiot box or watch movies enough. Were he an actor, I'd suggest LtC Allen West, but since he's not, perhaps Chris Pine?

B - first and foremost, at least able to convincingly act the part.
A - pee wee herman not , Charleston Heston or John Wayne yes... oh but they already have B in hand.
To get B, he may well be some unknown that cannot 'make it' in Hollywood because of his beliefs and ideals.

Ask Mark Consuelos(Kelly Ripa's husband) cuz he is a best friend of Esai Morales and I have no idea what his politics are. He's someone Dagney could fall in love with.

    B
Of Course.....there has to be an actor out there that fits the part ...it would not be right to have this played and acted out even though actors can do so.....in this case it isn't right to the author to even think that could be a possibility

I would answer B. If he is too be really believable, he needs to understand and ideally subscribe too the ideas and principles of Ayn Rand.

Within reason, the ability to act is paramount. If he is an Elsworth Toohey type it will most likely come through via his sense of life - so you will not pick him.

Have you considered the idea of not having Galt in the movie - other than in relief as with the ending of ASII. It will be so hard to find the right actor. You will not have the time to develop the character. This means leaving out the speach, but in my view the movie is not the appropriate vehicle for the speach. Excite those whose sense of life is in accord with the philosophy, to read the book!

Actor for Galt in this order... Glenn Beck, Tom Selleck, former Senator Fred Thompson, Clint Eastwood. Depends on the age you want Galt to be in the movie.

Preferably someone who is believable, clear, empathetic, and can who convey Rand's ideas in a speech that is not 70 or so pages (or 3 hours aloud according to some estimates) long. Cut to the chase and slam dunk it to the audience. Reach the "noobs", as it were but don't dumb it down either.
