Repost of original with new title: In 2007, a video game called BioShock came out that was largely based upon the ideas of Atlas Shrugged. It takes place in the underwater city of Rapture which is a lot like Galt's Gulch in that creative minds went on strike and fled their to great away from an oppressive world that did. not appreciate them. It's founder, Andrew Ryan is an objectivist who has crafted the city to be just like Ayn Rand's philosophy (Even his name is an anagram of Ayn Rand and he fled Russia just like her. Only difference he was a business man, not a novelist/philosopher.) The main difference between Galt's Gulch and Rapture however is that Rapture was a complete madhouse and failed miserably, while Galt's Gulch was a thriving success. What are your thoughts on BioShock vs. Atlas Shrugged?
Andrew Ryan Quote: I am Andrew Ryan, and I'm here to ask you a question. Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? 'No!' says the man in Washington, 'It belongs to the poor.' 'No!' says the man in the Vatican, 'It belongs to God.' 'No!' says the man in Moscow, 'It belongs to everyone.' I rejected those answers; instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose... Rapture, a city where the artist would not fear the censor, where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality, Where the great would not be constrained by the small! And with the sweat of your brow, Rapture can become your city as well.
Andrew Ryan Quote: What is the difference between a man and a parasite? A man builds. A parasite asks 'Where is my share?' A man creates. A parasite says, 'What will the neighbors think?' A man invents. A parasite says, 'Watch out, or you might tread on the toes of God... '
