Ben said it best.....
Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote. -Benjamin Franklin

The Problem with our Republic is that every single day it is switching into a Democracy. The Founding Fathers set up our country with the intention of not having everyone voted. The best way they could figure out if someone was a person of value was if they were a Land Owner, and only land owners could vote.

The next biggest problem is the 16th Amendment to the US Constitution. To sum up how it was before, it worked like this: The House of Representatives was an agent for the people. The Senate was an agent for the individual states. So basically, the House is a 4 year old child writing the grocery shopping list. The Senate is the adult that chooses to not buy piles and piles of bon bons, ice cream, cookies, cake and other candy.

Then came the 16th Amendment, and now not only is the House a 4 year old writing the shopping list, but now the Senate is ALSO a 4 year old doing the actual shopping.

It's infuriating that the vast majority of Americans don't even realize we are supposed to be a republic. It seems they honestly believe that mob rules is the best form of government.

Because the media is in a great place to control the Mob Rule, they purvey this myth as the intent of the founders.
I'd be astonished if even 25% of Americans knew the difference between a democracy and republic.

The latest proposal on how to "fix" the electoral college is to have all the electoral votes in a state awarded to the winner of the national popular vote. Needless to say that isn't very well-liked here in Oklahoma, where Obama didn't win one electoral district.

A better fix would be to automatically award the electoral vote to the winner in each district of a state, rather than the current mix of "winner take all" or proportional allocation. That would challenge the Presidential candidates to address a broader variety of the voting public.

While I'm hesitant to take away any state's rights to run their own business, the state's attempts to remove their citizens own rights means that the issue needs to be addressed country wide.

I like tying each individual electoral vote to each individual district.
