Hawaii changed the title of its high school civics course to "participation in democracy" so when I taught that course Bens quote was always posted up front.
An eye-opening alternate that I offer to those which extol the 'virtue of democracy': "Gang rape is democratic."
Don't tread on me.
More socially, and in the name of fairness, it's a vote of the majority on where a group is going to dinner, a vote on what they are going to eat, a vote on how much of a tip should be given, and a vote on who's gonna pay.
