When asked "Who is John Galt?", how do you typically respond? The inventor of the motor? The man who stopped the motor of the world? The best within each of us?

We're looking for the clearest, most concise, answers to help promote the message of Atlas and the film. So Gulch... who exactly is John Galt? Submit a comment on this post with your answer or vote on the answer you think is best. The best answers just might be used on upcoming ASP3 promotional materials and, if your answer is used, you’ll get a special thanks in the credits of the film “Atlas Shrugged: Who is John Galt?”

    Who is John Galt? In Ayn Rand’s 1957 novel “Atlas Shrugged”, John Galt was a mysterious hero, who withdrew from society in response to a world where corrupt political forces continually drew upon the productive individuals to “sacrifice more and more of their labors” for the sake of others. Hence the term “Going Galt” In Atlas Shrugged, leaders of industry and creative geniuses withdrew from society because they refused to continue to work and live for others, while being oppressed, demanded of and vilified by politicians for their achievements and success.

    WHO IS JOHN GALT? - HE REPRESENTS THE MORAL GUIDENCE FOR INTEGRITY - TRUTH - AND JUSTICE AGAINST THE SELF-CREATED IGNORANT - SUBHUMAN - PARASITES OF THE WORLD.

    Galt is good, slavery is bad. As an ingenious inventor-turned-hero, he figures out a way to avoid an increasingly more collectivist society by creating an entirely separate community based on free-trade and individuals' happiness.

    We should understand that the world we see around us is the result of the decisions we make. John Galt understood that and, being dissatisfied with what he saw around him, proceeded to make the appropriate changes.

    John Galt is the real independent. He does not NEED you or anyone else. He is the embodiment of what America used to value: invention, hard work, rugged individualism, honesty, integrity, and an entrepreneurial spirit. When any nation realizes that the productive in society are to be revered, rather than reviled, that "wealth is the product of man's capacity to think" (Atlas Shrugged, Francisco's money speech), and that "money is the barometer of a society's virtue" (Atlas Shrugged, Francisco's money speech). then that nation will attract great inventors and entrepreneurs like Edison, Ford, J.P. Morgan, Rockefeller, Carnegie, and John Galt and those like them.
