This facility seems well suited for training in a defensive capability, ie fighting off an invasion of a foreign country. That said it does not seem they are doing that. This is one of those times I wonder if the conspiracy theorists are not correct after all.
How do you figure that this is a defensive training facility? How can you establish such a thing? A training facility is a training facility and can be used for either offensive or defensive actions.
Read my comment again. I did not say this was a defensive training facility, only that it is well suited to be one. I also said it seems they are not using it for that purpose.
I guess I don't see how you find this well suited for a defensive training facility. What specifically are you recognizing as suited for defensive training? I merely see a training facility.
One of the things missing from our society is the idea that we could be invaded by a foreign military. This is true even when evidence of military buildup by our enemies is presented, such as China’s testing of hypersonic weaponry, building stealth aircraft, and launching an aircraft carrier. People still have the idea that the US military is invincible. I noticed when I was in the Army that this attitude was shared by our soldiers. War to American soldiers is something that we go to, not something that comes to us.
A facility like this can aid in the training of American soldiers because it can drive home the idea that the US is not immortal and undefeatable. It could be very useful in training the military to repel an invasion. I will grant you that a “Red Dawn” scenario is not likely, but it is a disservice to the nation to only prepare for likely scenarios. We may find in the future that complacency in our defense due to our projection of power to other sides of the planet becomes our downfall.
All this said I do not think the military is using this facility in the manner I have described, as there is nothing subversive in saying so if they were. The fact they are being so closed lipped about it lends a lot of credibility to the theory that it was built for more nefarious purposes.
I will say that, being from a military family, I have noticed something. During my father’s time in the military he was taught that he had a duty to disobey unlawful orders. During my time I was taught I had the option to disobey an unlawful order. I have talked to my cousin who is a Marine now, and they have not been taught anything about disobeying unlawful orders. I think you are correct in your suspicion that the military is being prepared for action against US civilians. I find it most disturbing. The police and local governments are one thing, but I do not think civilians would fare so well against the actual military.
