In this interview, he argues that poor, indigenous people should keep their oil in the ground. This virtually guarantees they remain in poverty. It is oil, and its myriad of uses, that propelled the USA into world economic and political dominance. The most amazing thing to me about Chomsky, of Jewish ancestry, is that he supports the very Muslim people that would like to kill him. If Freud were alive, he'd write a book on this.Mark as read | Best of... | Permalink|

He writes only in and about English and from that attempts to theorize "universal grammar" as a genetic inheritance. I could accept a claim with some evidence, but it would have be more than one language invented after 1300 CE.Mark as read | Parent | Best of... | Permalink|

- 1Posted by $ MikeMarotta 10 years, 1 month agoOne or two exceptions do not necessarily falsify a good theory. I have enough on my plate right now, and prefer not to go into this in detail. Last year, I ran a literature search and read his seminal book and some early papers. He invented an algebra to express his ideas. You would have to get into whether or not Subject-Verb-Object is the "same" as Subject Object Verb, how to analyze agglutinative languages, and all kinds of other stuff. As I said, I was not swayed, but I do understand the general claim and it seems generally true that human languages are similar to each other.Mark as read | Parent | Best of... | Permalink|
