It is a hard choice, make no doubt.
Everything about Objectivism is a hard choice.
You have to judge every action and choose on your own responsiblity. You decide and you own the consequences of your actions.

Responsibility is terrifying for so many people. Is it any wonder that Objectivism is so slow to expand?

It is a treat to hang out with people willing to commit to themselves first, and own their own destiny.

I just don't find it 'a hard choice'.

I understand that many do, but I just can't fit myself into that 'mind set'.

The difficulty most people outside this forum have with Objectivism being a "hard choice" is that they have already compromised their alleged values and usually have accepted guilt, often unearned, for that value compromise. Christianity is attractive for some people because they see it as an opportunity to be absolved of that guilt, and start over. Some of these Christians fail to realize that, at that point, they no longer own themselves. The really hardcore Christians realize that they no longer own themselves and happily embrace their slavery.

Objectivists are healthy enough psychologically to just move forward with their lives, without the need (word chosen very carefully) for absolution of past mistakes.

The bottom line is that those who reject Objectivism have "issues" that are the result of their prior and/or current failures to live up to Objectivism's moral code. As Jack Nicholson once said, "They can't handle the truth!"

As Rush Limbaugh often says, liberalism is a set of easy choices. Objectivism is the exact opposite, and the fact that the general public has been coached to be dependent, it is no wonder at all that Objectivism is slow to expand.

But before we can choose to change our course, we must recognize the similarities to the description AR provided as well as the root causes.

I wonder if I'm the only one who feels this way - in fact, I bet I'm not. But, this mindset that accompanies Objectivism...at times I feel so outside the norm. I hear in everyday conversation and in media blather comments that really fly in the face of things as I understand them. People really believe that government provides jobs, for example. I was watching a bit of the David Feherty interview with Boener. Did anybody else see that? The Speaker said some things that we so pro-big-government that I was left sitting on my couch, mouth agape in awe. I think we're in real trouble. (Hope I'm making sense. I had surgery yesterday and I'm beat...)

Abaco, I am amazed that you are surprised that the Republicans are not standing up for what is right. I guess I got thoroughly disillusioned a long time ago! I hope your recovery is swift and uneventful.

Thanks. Frankly, I am having more trouble telling the difference of the GOP to the Dems. I really can't see one anymore. One champions the military - doing it by sending many young people off, and celebrating when they come back with their legs blown off. That's cute. The other is a little more into environmentalism. That's about it...

Well, since the nature of man cannot be changed, except through faith in Christ and walking with him, you won't be able to change the course of man's unavoidable destruction.
