I am getting guff from Conservatives over abortion and euthanasia. I will admit, I just watched the latest PP video. tech, the baby is born live, kept alive until the heart is cut out. it's all on video. Unless someone can make a case this was doctored....
Well, we all have illusions of one sort or another. The less information you have the larger the illusions that survive. Which likely explains the level of angst with a lot of us.
We are rational and observe the world around us, illusions have a tough time.
there was something in the Luntz Politico interview I found fascinating. he said: a Trump taps into a fire. well you have to be careful bringing that forth. we need a candidate to provide solutions, a balm to the anger. I thought bread and circuses
To be something other than a distraction Trump has to come out with position statements and plans just like the rest of them. Maybe not as many, since most of them are lifetime politicos and have decades worth of paper they can wave around. But he has to do the work if he expects to maintain support and/or momentum.
Like I have said before, he is forcing the others to be better candidates just to get any attention at all. Issues that normally are ignored, or even denied to exist are getting public scrutiny...and that is a very good thing.
I'm optimistic that if nothing else, this won't be a boring elections cycle.
He has come out with a position statement on immigration which is pretty comprehensive -- and I usually hate the term comprehensive because it is short for "amnesty only".
Although I will admit that I find the game where each of the candidates puts out a detailed plan and talks about how their plan will do this or that for the average family that the other plans won't a farce. The reality is that none of them will pass their plan as written, so all the time we spend on the minutia of their plans is wasted.
Very true, all their plans really amount to are positions with notional "meat" on it. It is an inefficient system, but still no better options out there.
Indeed. Too many nowadays want to walk around blissfully ignorant. I believe local news stations contribute to the problem greatly. Our local channels now spend more time promoting local restaurants, events and healthy living than they do anything of real import to all. Unfortunately a brief look at the local news (probably to catch the weather) seems to be all the time the useful idiots want to expend.
Whaaaat? Russia is freer than us? Chile, China, SAUDI ARABIA for goodness sakes? Pardon my but language, but Bullshit!! I'll go along with Japan and possibly Germany because we put them where they are. Saudi Arabia??? Gimme a break.
It seems kind of odd to me. To me, freedom is freedom. Recognition of individual rights; which of course implies economic freedom. But I admit I never did a study of that particular angle.
My Grandfather used to say, "The reason the Government hates Native Americans so much. IS because we know the difference between the illusion of freedom and True freedom."
There is something badly wrong with this study. My sister lived in Switzerland for several decades...and everything is controlled there. Even the type of plants you are allowed to plant on your property along a road are controlled - and different restrictions if you live on a corner.
New Zealand and Denmark have socialized medicine. How are they in the top 20?
We understand that we have been losing our freedoms for years in all areas of our lives, but those who are or wanting to come here have less of all freedoms than we but they do not know what we have lost. So, they just keep coming here vs going to any country that ranks higher than us. Interesting.
The racist in chief would say," You are just spoiled because you experienced so much freedom prior to 1988. 31st is a great showing! It proves that the economy is doing GREAT!"
"Freedom was not distributed equitably here, so my proven policies have redistributed freedom so that it is fair and equitable for everyone. This redistribution dropped our rankings, but now everybody is a 31, not the 1% at 1 and the rest of us at 92"
Of course when he speaks he equates himself to the common man, when in reality nothing could be further from the truth. Common men are the last ones he would want to be around.
Before I read your response, freedom, I was thinking Racist-In-Chief O'Marxist would say, "I think 31 is much too high. I have much more hard work to do with my phone and my pen." (I recently read the presidebt state his concern that a GOP president would undo "all my hard work").
A buddy of mine I grew up with, went to college with, immigrated to Sweden about 20 years ago and never looked back. He loves it there. Go figure. He would keep me entertained sending me photos of his latest girlfriend. Man has had quite a run...haha...
America is far less free than it used to be.

And we haven't stopped our downward spiral. That sucking sound is the whirlpool in the tidy bowl saying "alligators ahead" !

This smells funny.
