And I thank all who responded to my inane request to "Thumbs Up" my comments, as it helped me see the error of my thinking. It also let me see how far I have strayed from my objectivist principles. I was 18 the first time I read Atlas Shrugged and it changed my life. Or rather, it clarified my mind-full-of-mush thinking and solidified my moral structure. It helped me see that the way I saw things was not wrong, that I was actually rational. I am 66 now, and I have read and reread AS, along with The Fountain Head, Anthem, We the Living, The Virtue of Selfishness, Paradise Lost, Capitalism the Unknown Ideal, The Romantic Manifesto, etc. Plus I subscribed to Ayn Rand's Newsletter. I even debated a liberal Philosphy teacher in college and got applause from the class. I obviously have become complacent and cynical instead of fighting for my mind and my values. I am so very grateful that I found this blog.

Your Objectivist Odyssey mirrors mine almost to a T. I just go back a little further. Our world is so screwed up that one has to either constantly check the good old premises or hide in a cave.

Your story is much like mine. We're the same age. I was a bit older (22) when I first read Rand's books, but like you, my thinking wasn't changed but rather clarified.

Amen to your last statement. I wholeheartedly agree and think that the most important subject to work on is how to influence others in objective thought and get a few more people off the sound-bite media drug.
