I think that there's a component of this underclass that isn't being considered. How many middle class workers, for example, collected unemployment for a time, then looked at their spouse and said, "you always wanted a little lunch wagon (or lawn care business, or land clearing company, or whatever) and decided let's take a shot at it. As these are largely cash businesses income would be largely under reported if indeed it's reported at all. Some, I'm sure, started small internet businesses. I know of several physicians who have downsized their practices and only take cash. They're even refusing Medicare. As I'm sure you'll agree, a producer will find a way. And this is only the tip of the iceberg; more and more will see the fiscal, emotional and physical benefits of working a cottage industry and join in, further decreasing the amount going into government coffers for wealth redistribution.

As I've said before, government can afford to be hated; it can't afford to be ignored. And ignoring the government is EXACTLY what these people will be doing. The only question I have is, "Where do I sign?".
