I am a concealed carry permit holder in my state and I carry a sig p238 an a daily basis. What are the thoughts in the gulch on this topic and if you carry what do you carry?
I always wonder that people are willing to discuss their arms and habits on the internet. I would think this would be a good topic on which to be silent.
We are seeing a resurgence of firearms ownership and defensive carrying. Many are new to the concept or have little experience. Especially with regard to the legal issues. I think that freely giving advice that can result in more educated and experienced defensive weapons owners and carriers is beneficial to all. The important thing is to say the facts and keep the stupid and childish bravado away from the public record.
My state has open carry but I prefer to renew my concealed carry pistol license. My gun friendly sheriff will even send me renew reminders so I can renew exclusively by mail. I also prefer to be a nasty surprise instead of the first target to take out in a group. I'm now carrying a recently purchased 9mm Sig Sauer P938 pocket pistol in a holster that looks like a wallet in my right front pocket, having moved my real wallet to my left front pocket. It's like a miniaturized M1911 with features Old Dino is used to.
The Second Amendment IS your carry permit, and given how dangerous and violent our society has become, you'd be wise to exercise your right to keep and bear arms. Every day we hear or read about some violent criminal or illegal alien harming someone...don't think it can't happen to you.
I don't carry but keep a 1911 45 with hollow point for home defense. It makes bodies go backward whether they want to or not. I don't use it if they are going back on their own but if I show will and intent to use with awesome power it causes all but the drugged to change their plans.
A carry permit can cost several hundred dollars, which many who live in high - crime areas can't afford. So those who need a permit most cannot obtain one. Cruel irony.
Although i am considering a Glock 30SF .45 cal. 10+1. I have rented one twice at the range and shot well. Based on dimensions i yhink i coukd easily carry the same way.
Yes, I carry. I carry a Nato 9mm semi-auto pistol, M1911 style. Open carry is legal in Pennsylvania, and we have "must issue" state law on concealed carry permits, so I have a permit. I prefer to carry concealed.
Here in South Carolina, the weather dictates what I carry. In the summer, which can be hot and humid, it's a Glock 42 in a pocket holster. In the cooler months a Glock 19 with a IWB holster.
I've got a pretty solid Glock collection but my go-to slip-in-the-pocket of choice is actually a Smith & Wesson BobyGuard 380 ( http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wc... ).
I wish South Carolina was open carry, but we aren't....yet. I have a Concealed Permit and usually carry my Sig Sauer P238. (The guy who sold it to me said it's like a miniature 1911, it really is, I love it.) I usually keep in my car since I can't have it at work (drat). I also own a Ruger .38 revolver, which is a little bulky for concealed carry so it stays within reach at home.
I love this subject! Here in Az. we have open carry and conceal carry. I have my permit so I conceal carry a KelTec P32 and backup Bond Texas Ranger in 9mm barrel or swap to a .410 barrel. I'm looking at Western style Revolver to add to my collection also. I go to an indoor range about 15min. from my house. I would really like to go to an outdoor range but that's in Phoenix @ 2hrs away. I will try going in the fall because right now it's too damn hot and the bullet would melt before it hit the target(just kidding)!
Rio Salado range is East Valley. That's best for rifle. I usually go to the desert for hand gun use. I like Sugarloaf. It's on the beeline a little east of Ft McDowell
When I'm not in a situation where I can carry a gun, I bring my cane. I don't need one, but when you're over 70, you don't get any questions. The cane is the best legal everywhere self defense weapon, and mine is a special version that enhances the impact.
I carry Glock. Usually a G42, or a G36, or my G27 or a G23 but rarely will I carry my G17 but when I get my G43 I will let in enter into the carry plan. Yes I carry concealed but I can carry open in my State. I also have my Utah CCW.
Wheel guns go bang every time, you can pound nails, drop it in the mud and Ruger SA wheelguns still go bang every time. If I`m betting my life, those are the cards I want.
My state doesn't allow carry yet, but there are pending cases that may change that. If allowed I would carry a fairly large revolver. (I don't know where to get instruction on taking a semi-auto apart. Revolvers are much simpler.)
I would never open-carry, though, it needlessly scares the public and can result in laws and rules changing against us. And I agree with allosaur's take about not wanting to be the first target.
I have a CCW, but don't carry. My hands are small; the double-stack magazines in the common 9 mil's are uncomfortable for me to shoot, so I go with a single-stack 1911 in .45. And yes, I know how to clean it ;)
I have arthritis and neuropathy in my hands, making it difficult to pull a slide back. So I use revolvers. I usually carry a S&W snub nose 38 in a holster that tucks into my waistband. I am going to trade in an old 380 for a 357 Mag. as soon as I determine which one I want. Any suggestions?
My wife has a similar issue. It is very difficult for her to rack the slide. Out of dozens of guns that we tried, the SIG P238 is by far the easiest to rack. Amazing machining quality; good gun. Only drawback, in my opinion, is the high precision, e.g., low tolerance of anything being out of spec, including ammo. I think that it's a better choice than revolvers, which require heavy trigger pull, often affecting accuracy.
I don't require too much accuracy, as I only plan to use it at close range. However, I'll try to see if I can get my local arms dealer to let me get the feel of the Sig if he has one.
I'm not talking about a half an inch off. When unacostomed shooters pull a heavy trigger, they often tilt the gun and shoot a couple of feet off target. And you only have 5 or 6 shots...
I have numerous guns and ammo. Primarily, .45, 410, .380, .22 and 12 gauge, .444.
I own two Taurus Judges. There is a very clear method to what I do and why.
Open Carry: When I open carry, I use my paddle holster with my Blued Taurus Judge. To avoid the potential of "Going Armed to the Terror of the Public", the Taurus Judge looks like what a cop would carry and even the most fanatical gun control activists have ignored or not even noticed it. Because it "looks" like a cop gun as I have been told. In fact I have asked if I am a cop when open carrying it. I have the first round set as 410 Birdshot. Great warning round, NO damage if fired in the air, no worry about BB's coming down. Round 2, is 000 Buck shot.Round 3 is 45 Long Colt, followed by 2 more 000 Buck.
Usually when I am open Carrying my Judge I also have my Ruger LCP on my ankle, or my Taurus PT145 in my "Smart Carry" holster with a spare magazine or both depending on how froggy I feel.
Occasionally I will open carry my tactical Taurus 24/7 OSS if I am going to say a gun show or something where lots of people are open carrying.
All my weapons use hollow point self defense rounds for obvious reasons. "Dead men tell no tales" and very little chance the round will pass through and through damaging someone else.
Each weapons I have stashed around my home is easily available to me, loaded and chambered so I do not have to waste time.
Normally I daily conceal carrying my Ruger LCP, either in my pocket, or on my ankle.
As a side note my wife also carries Ruger LCP in her purse that has a special pocket she can stick her hand in and shoot through the purse.
Respectfully, I suggest checking the law and precedent cases with respect to warning shots - you may end up being arrested and charged, instead of the assailant. The law seems to concider that if you shoot a warning shot, that means that your life is not really in danger, therefore you get arrested. Morality aside (the law is not concerned with morality), you are better off killing the assailant than either warning or wounding one.
The law does not require any warnings. There have been cases of crimes prevented by either warning shots or even drawing of a defensive weapon. The victims were arrested and prosecuted. May not necessarily get convicted, but my view is that I would rather have a dead criminal than spendi tens of thousands and probably ruin my life defending myself from the criminal government.
It shouldn't matter what the members of the forum think of your well thought decisions. Most everyone thinks things through, then they make a decision. About 5 years ago I found myself to be the only unarmed man in Delaware Co. With one or often more shootings on the news each night in my home town of Columbus, I thought about where I need to go for business and made my own choice. Of course one thing leads to another and now we have a gun safe and several iterations of various 9mm and 45ACPs.
Recently saw a pen in .25ACP sold on an on-line gun auction. Very clever design. It went for several hundred $'s - way overpriced, but an interesting piece!

P.S. I don't believe in registering dogs or guns.

Hammer less so it will not get hung up on something coming out of holster or pocket
Weighs 11.4 oz empty
shoots either 357 magnum, 38+P, or 38 special
Downside - the trigger pull is a bit hard as this is double action only.

BANG BANG BANG...STOP FREEZE!!!
You need good gun control though. By "gun control" I mean hitting what your aiming at.
