UPDATE 7: 27 a.m. ET – ​Fox News reports Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev (surviving suspect) was one of 50 students who received money for higher education from a local community in Cambridge in 2011.

UPDATE 7:16 a.m. ET — ​President Obama has been briefed on developments.

UPDATE 7:05 a.m. ET — NBC News and the AP report the bombing suspects are brothers of Chechen origin; had been legal permanent residents in the U.S. for one year; ages 19 and 20. Surviving suspect identified as Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge, Mass.

    let's see. A major city completely shut down. Effectively Marshall law for Watertown, thousands of policemen on the street-people told not to leave their houses.
    All for one man and everyone is complying. hmmmm

      You know it! Correct me if I'm wrong... wasn't it the Chechen rebels who took over that school is Russia, herding the children and staff into the gym wired with explosives... And our media refused to use the word "Muslim"... as in Muslim Chechen rebels? Cowards!

      I consider myself progressive and when I heard this I thought "Whoa Russian Muslims? Yep sounds about right I guess." Apparently they were also into 911 conspiracies and all that, thinking the US did it to make people hate muslims.... so their response was to make America hate muslims more? Retarded.

      Agreed, but it is difficult for me to call them "my leaders" as I not only didnt vote for them but advocated others not to, yet they still are "leading" us. Looks like it may be time for the minority of intellectual thinkers to set things right (very similar to what happens in atlas shrugged hehe)

        Exactly...I will never claim them as "my" anything. I WILL say "YOUR president" when talking about happenings that he's responsible for to those who voted for him....IF I speak to them at all, that is. Usually don't waste MY seconds or minutes on them at all.

            Well, I'm sure somehow this is Bush's fault of course. I'm in no way saying the gov't was part of this (though there are the usual 'conspiracy theory' sites that do), but IF they were, some reasons could be:

            A dress rehearsal for declaring marshal law nationwide? To see how easy it is to get people to allow officials into their homes without a search warrant? To frighten more people to give up rights for safety?

            Otoh, this gives so much ammo to those demanding their rights to arms for defense we may see the gun control legislation quiet down for a while. We also know why DHS needs 1.2 billion rounds, they are horrible shots apparently.

    I came here to say "Muslim + Russian is pretty much a double whammy red flag" and am surprised to see the conversation soon switched to some kind of gov't cover up. I'd like to know why you think that, and what you think someone has to gain from this which they couldn't have gotten otherwise.
