a perfect conversation

I just had one of those perfect conversations. We’ve all had them – probably not often enough.
I discovered a person I know in one non-political context is a raving libertarian – she didn’t know it because she hates and avoids politics. And we kept talking, so I showed her Hank Rearden’s trial scene on the movie site. She was bouncing in her chair, saying “Wait! He had to sell it to people who couldn’t even use it and couldn’t sell it to the people who needed its specific properties? That’s just dumb!!” and when it was over, she wanted to know what happened next. I had spoken with her about the idea of shrugging before, so I alluded to it, and she saw – I SAW HER SEE – the possibilities, and pitfalls, and the terror and the ecstasy.
And when she left, I sat down and listened to the John Galt Theme from ASI and heard a voice say, inside my head, “we never had to take any of it seriously, did we?”
- pure and perfect, like it should be -

I love that quote also. I play that CD all the time. It's amazing that even when things are going a bit wonky just listening to John Galts Theme makes me smile and the world seems brighter and more open to endless possibilities. Thanks for the story.

Thank you for posting that. There may be a mass of people who hate and avoid politics who would agree with AS.

This is sort of how I imagine the tech who relates to Dagny the story of how communism brought out the worst in his cowokers at the motor plant.

I had an interesting meeting last night. I work in a money-related field (about all I can say about it here) and met with an attorney who, through a conversation a few years ago, gave me the final nudge I needed to persue this work. We chatted in his new office last night about all kind of current events, really seeing eye-to-eye on many things. Near the end of the conversation I asked if he had read Atlas Shrugged. He said he was familiar with it but since I had explained that it played a major role in my life he is going to acquire and read it. I can just imagine his mind exploding from it...

It was a beaufiful conversation between two enthusiastic producers.

That quote, along with his response is one of my very favorites from the entire book. You had a great conversation. Simply fantastic.
