Actually, the thesis of my book "The Republican Party's Civil War: Will Freedom Win?" is that the libertarian/limited government faction in the GOP is fighting establishment Republicans, who simply want to tweak the welfare state a bit, and extreme social conservatives--Santorum, Huckabee--who give priority to limiting liberty.
Establishment Republicans are mostly me-too do-gooders who want to be get warm and fuzzies thrown at them by establishment media. Extreme social conservatives generally focus on gays, abortion, and symbolic issues but can be liberty-leaning on some, though not all, economic issues. But they don’t have the sheer lust to power to control every aspect of our lives that we see in elite Democrats. Both Republicans and Democrats are bad, but from somewhat different motivations.
I agree with your viewpoint regarding the producers who create new technology, but I think you are deluding yourself to expect any progress in the GOP. The GOP is just a 2nd branch of the State Party and is even more destructive to liberty than the Democrats. We should definitely lead a return to a Republic, but supporting the State Party is a waste of effort and a certain way to waste your vote.
