Are negative savings account interest rates on the horizon? As the banks struggle to make money on lending, could they start charging for deposits?

This is why Credit Unions are enjoying a renaissance. They are sourced differently and keep a much tighter rein on what they do. If WF sends me one of those, you bet I will finish my move to a CU.

My sense is the economy is on fire. Long term rates will rise followed by short-term rates. This is the end of rock-bottom rates, according to my crystal ball.

I think this was a trial balloon floated by the FED. They were considering lowering interest rates to zero to stimulate the economy. Banks pay a fee on deposits for FDIC. That cost would have to be passed along. I am hoping that the FED does not go ahead with this.
