Suppose binLaden isn't dead. After all, why does everyone think that Obama got him? (As an aside, I'm thankful that he didn't make the announcement dressed like Rambo, carrying an A3 with bandoliers of ammo criss-crossing his chest.). The evidence is no deeper that Mr. Obama said that he's dead. The body was supposedly carried out by the spec-ops guys, taken back to the ship and dumped overboard. No forensics that I'm aware of, no film or photos, nothing. Even the doctor who supposedly fingered him got dropped.
Then again, a president wouldn't lie about that, would he?
would he? Nah, no way.....

As it should be. Bin Laden was a hero to many pakistanis on the street. If their government helped get him killed, there would have been problems. Sounds to me like we said that they weren't involved in order to shield them from the fallout.
This type of thing is and should be modus operandi for foreign policy. There are frankly people and nations out there that do not deserve the truth.
Ike did almost the opposite with the Gary Powers U2 incident. And by saying, yep, it was us, he challenged the Soviets to a game of World War 3 chicken. Stupid rookie thing to do. The Soviets, in essence, wanted us to lie about it even though everybody knew it was us. To admit it was basically an act of war and a direct challenge from which they'd have to save face. To lie about it would have given them a way out. Ike chose to slap them in the face.
