Oh, the definition of rich mentioned in the story should be brought down quite a few notches. Quite a few. Too bad the insurance rates mentioned in the article are pretty darn accurate.
Also it's difficult for DIYers to fix health issues as readily as plumbing problems.
Do you think Healthcare is better for you and me as 1) a managed provider system and 2) a managed payment system?
I think most everything is best as an un-managed heard of people trying to solve problems for money and people offering money to solve their problems.
BTW, on Green Mars now
I really think that "system" thing is insidious. It implies central planning as a forgone conclusion. "People struggle to afford XYZ. We must have a problem with *our national XYZ system*." I immediately think there is no national system. It's just people trying to get money by helping other people.
Green Mars was good, but it was the slowest of the trilogy. You have to enjoy geological descriptions of landscapes. I did like the part, though, where the failed freedom fighters were holed up in a little hidden community they built in the polar region.
