I am in a latin american country. I enjoy a much lower cost of living than the US. There is more work to get a permit to work where I live, but since my business is in the states-I do not have to pay taxes or meet regulatory rules. I also enjoy more time, due to the low cost of living. Now I can focus on my writing and keep Hank Rangar occupied and getting justice in the US. :)

I moved to Sayulita, Nayarit, Mexico in 2000, but after realizing that foreigners have very few rights in Mexico and I was tired of "standing out" because of my skin color (even with a suntan I was still (obviously) a gringo), I decided (in 2006) to move to Argentina, where the only "right" I don't have as a non-citizen is to vote in presidential elections. As a legal, permanent resident I have the same rights as citizens.

I am very happy where I am and have no desire to return to the USA.

One of my neighbors moved to Panama and she loves it. She kept the house by me and comes up once in a while for short stints. I find this concept of being an ex-pat very interesting and may follow it someday. My grandfather lived in Mazatlan most of his retirement and my mother spent 15 years living on a big sailboat. When my mom came back to live in America after getting too old to handle the boat anymore her first question was, "What happened to Americans? They are so stupid now." I thought that was an interesting observation.

Well, I don't have millions like Mr. McAfee, so I think Belize is fairly good. As I have friends that live there and they do not have the problems Mr. McAfee had. Mexico is great to visit, but that is about it except for the Yucatan peninsula and maybe San Luis Potosi. Any Central American country is open for retirement, but crime is always and issue. Live Overseas is doing a development in Panama that sounds interesting. Chile is also pretty good. Argentina has this little inflation problem. Every place has it's good and it's bad sides, you just have to choose what you want to put up with.

http://www.whoismcafee.com/ there is his commentary about his time in Belize. It isn't what it is advertised. What McAfee says give a behind the scenes look at govt. of Belize. It is no better than the rest of the south of the border countries.

The whole northern hemisphere is a problem; not the least concern being Fukushima radiation. The only country with amazing current and future prospects is Chile. Caucasians blend in easily due to the historical European immigration. They even have a separate inflation-proof currency.

The situation described is the same as the one faced by John Galt. The rest of the world was already filled with "peoples' republics" and the USA was rapidly following that trend. Therefore, Galt chose a "hidden" place. Sometimes the best place to "hide" is right where you are.

This is a no-brainer. Move to Singapore. English is near universally spoken and is the second language of adjacent Malaysia.

I went on strike about three years ago. I have made more money with my investments than I was ever paid working for someone else. As soon as I can talk my wife into going on strike we'll be looking to move to a Gulch. In the next few weeks we're going to check out Santiago, Chile.
