Protectionism?

Just a quick query to ask where the US-based Gulch population tends to stand in terms of free trade versus protectionism.
It is noted in other parts of the world that the USA has sought largely unilateral trade deals with other countries, providing them with virtually unfettered access to foreign markets, while keeping many of its domestic markets closed to foreign goods and heavily regulated. For example, several primary industries. For that reason, I've referred to such deals not as Free Trade Agreements, but "Free" Trade Agreements. This is perceived overseas as a glaring double standard on the part of the US, being libertarian when it suits them, and being liberals (in the US sense) when it suits them.
