    Zach055,
This is very divisive subject: probably unnecessarily.

There has been an ongoing attempt to make English the official language by Congressman Steve King and others for some time, with little success. As long as the official documents, road signs and predominate spoken language are English; people will learn English by the second generation. This is historically the case.

There is only loss of opportunity for those who do not learn the language.

What is troubling is the pandering to special interest groups who wish government documents etc. produced for their benefit which may upset the traditional norms, and cost taxpayers. The credence given to those minorities who wish to come here, but do not like the customs once here and wish to force their will and in so doing threaten the culture which drew them in the first place is another problem.

I have read many times that internet petitions are meaningless and powerless as far as the government politicians are concerned. This one being on an official Whitehouse.gov site may be different to a degree and hold some sway but little power. I doubt our POTUS will give it a second thought… Perhaps some others can shed more light on this subject.

    Respectfully,
    O.A.
