In response to a suggestion from Producer xthinker88 we've implemented a new category: "Going Galt."

This new category is the place for "how to" articles related to self sufficiency and "shrugging."

If you are a Producer and want to move an existing post to this new category:

1.) Go to the post
2.) Click "Edit"
3.) Select "Going Galt" category drop down
4.) Click "Submit"

If you are not a Producer and want to move an existing post to this category, please leave a comment with a link to the post you want moved and I'll take care of it for you.

I would like to see first a "virtual gulch" which would unite like minded people into an economic juggernaut where we would trade with each other more and more quietly outside of the governments control. Its called hiding in plain sight. We can all go on a gold/silver standard anytime we want. Electronic money sort of like bitcoin, BUT backed by gold/silver. Its not bad enough here YET to move to the boondocks and live on berries and such, and with the NSA out there its unlikely a real galts gulch could operate here.

C OM, 20 years a HAM. Thinking of maybe an HF net sched for Galt oriented HAMs? Cud do NVIS on 80m for 300-400 mile radius. Might be usefull in a collapse.

Put your long wire about 8 feet off the ground. Use a transmatch since proximity to ground will change the impedance. Your noise floor will drop substantially and you will have reliable coms in a 300 mile radius day and night. It's good for local disaster coms without the need for a repeater.

Thanks Much for the pointers! . the wire is in the peak
of the attic, about 125 feet long, oriented roughly
east-west. . we have another one ready to go up
which will be oriented roughly north-south. . switching
between the 2 with a Heathkit antenna tuner. . the
drake amp and tentec eagle feed it. . should be fun! -- j

well, this wire is in the top of the attic upstairs -- about
125 or more feet long, it is end-fed with a Heathkit
tuner and the amp and the eagle. . we'll see how it
matches in. . we have another 120 foot long wire ready
to go up, to "point" east-west. . should be fun!!! -- j

p.s. Thanks Much for the pointers about the long
            wire rigging!!!
