Orange County's Chapman University students apparently can't be bothered to read as their complaint about Ayn Rand refers to "Gender Roles." Guess they missed the whole AS plot line where its hero and strongest character happens to be Dagny.

I will gladly accept all Gulchers and their children to my university. We would have accepted Reagan, Thatcher, Rand, Schweitzer, and all of those other public figures whose memories and reputations were defaced.

J, I had one issue with the Reagan part... I 'was there and aware' to hear Reagan make a religious issue out of AIDS and homosexuality 'way back when,' and I personally believe that his actions and beliefs stalled medical research into cure or even treatment of AIDS for a decade or more.

imnsho, but it looked really obvious to me...

But Rand, Friedman?! Sick, illiterate, unthinking student morons (and that's being generous.)

As someone who has moved into biomedical engineering over the last decade, I think that Reagan and GW Bush did far more to move biomedical research forward along a proper path than anyone would have predicted. By opposing the use of unborn children for medical research purposes, biomedical researchers were nudged toward developing a method to induce pluripotency for adult stem cells. This eventually resulted in an ethically sound AND biologically sound (i.e. minimal rejection) method for tissue engineering. Because tissue engineering moved down this path, researchers like me were forced to far better understand the role that the adaptive immune system (the key to understanding AIDS) plays in engendering acceptance (as opposed to minimizing rejection) with regard to both implants and regenerated tissues. This is an area that is growing right now by leaps and bounds, and I don't have to be self-conflicted over whether what I am doing is somewhat life and somewhat anti-life. What I am doing is life-giving, and I have no contradictions.

I'm sure the Sociology Department gave extra credit to whomever defaced these statues.
Hell, I'll bet that they're excused from taking finals.

And, again, I ask - why are taxpayers funding these marxist indoctrination sausage grinders?
    Oh yeah, force.

A couple of points: First, the statues themselves are pretty darn cool. Not a bad selection of luminaries to honor. Second, Chapman is a private school so talk of "taxpayers" rights is inapposite. Third, I'm guessing that the tape was not affixed by "student leaders" because Chapman's reputation is strongly conservative/libertarian at least in the economics area. Again, I'm guessing, but I would think these may be the antics of the oppressed progressive minority. At least I hope so.

More than anything, this shows how "higher education" has declined into lower education. For far too long, we have not paid attention to who was teaching our children and what were they teaching them. Failure to speak up when your silence would be taken for agreement and complacency gets you the above.

I feel like I should try to come up with some wry comment about the new generation of future leaders but sometimes I'm just left speechless. Unfortunately I'm old enough to remember when college was a meeting place of ideas; a place where divergent opinions could be examined with the light of introspection and where debate was used to find the central truth of a thing. Sometimes I yearn for yesteryear but accept that the arrow of time always moves forward into uncharted territory.

It doesn't matter to these students if they've read or understood anything. They only know that great people represent "the enemy". They know it because they've heard it and they feel it. That's all they need to know.

Racism is the new McCarthyism... who will have the "Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?"moment?

Reading and looking at the photos here, a memory of Obama's first Christmas in the White House kicked out from my dino data bin.
Someone photographed an ornament with a smiling Chairman Mao on the WH's progressive Christmas tree.
Such "educated" people are what these so-called students already are even before a leftist hands them a diploma having acceptable values.

Since when did plastic yellow tape become defacement? We used toilet paper, white glue, eggs, and carried VW's to wrong places. But I don't know if we would have done Rand.
