A bad idea? Hell, its not considered freedom if you have to do something. This right should be earned: property ownership, business ownership, or service to the country. People need have a vested interest in the country to make decisions steering its direction.

Mandatory voting is suicide for the Republic. You are right it is a good idea politically for the Ds.
If we wait for a good idea for the Republic from O, we will be pushing up daisies first.

I like to use my absentee voting privilege. I must show up at the township office and show ID to receive my ballot. I can then research the candidates and proposals and vote intelligently. My sealed ballot is fed into a machine and my name is checked off by a clerk in our precinct on voting day. I feel comfortable with this. I have also voted many times in person and observed the procedure. I also know and trust the clerks that work the district polls.
