What do you all think about the old song "Sunshine" by Jonathan Edwards as a Objectivist theme song? Maybe some of you could come up with some other well fitting pieces.
You pull in a wide variety (so do I). Great selections. Funny about your picking "Superstition". I had someone just yesterday "explain" to me that Ayn Rand and her Philosophy were nothing but Superstitious cr**. No I didn't let it bother me. One has to consider the source of comments like that.
Wow. Superstitious crap? Obviously dont know what they are talking about. Although AS was published in 1957, while reading it I was absolutely amazed because it was like she was writing about what's going on RIGHT NOW. Superstitious? Hardly. Ayn Rand was a genius.
Sounds like someone who has not read AS, or is so prejudiced that they are blind to the truths and the potentialities becoming realities that she described. Or they are just passing along ridicule of they overheard from such a person.
I like the "My Way" suggestion, written by Paul Anka. However, another Pink Floyd song would caution us of what can happen too easily, indoctrination. "Another Brick in the Wall", which is where US public education has gone, and religion as well. Too easily we become robots to supposed good intentions. We need to keep that in mind not matter the setting, is can be a slippery slope.
Great Choice. I have always been partial to this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lIzkLJE... Lessons learned are the one thing you can take as much as you want of and no one can take them away from you.
I just listened to the whole album this morning while sipping some Oaxaca brew. throws me back to my early teens. I discovered DF one summer working as a counselor in training at Girl scout camp. that was an interesting summer. I was 14 and driving a pick up truck with 12 canoes on a trailer back and forth to a lake. ha! and that was also the summer some crazed felon escaped from prison and brutally murdered some girl scouts in their tent just a state away from us. I gained alot of knowledge that summer :)
It wasn't a crazed escape felon. The man who was charged did not commit the crime. The real killers (yes, plural because one man couldn't have done all that was done) have never been caught. I live in the neighboring town where it happened. Read "Tent Number 8"
But what a great trip down memory lane. I love reading stories from people's youth. Thank you for sharing.
As one who always, always, always votes for March of Cambreadth {herein as the center of a trilogy] https://video.search.yahoo.com/video/pla... I think I've gotta say that Schulman wins again. This is scary good.
Though the performance is by Jordan Page, the words and music are by Neil's daughter Soleil. Solely sings the movie's title theme, reminiscent of the best James Bond themes. https://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=ySRrsXzu...

But put my vote for "White China" by Ultravox
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jbBv6Wh...
An cautionary tale of Communism and what is in store for Hong Kong.
"When pale turns to pink
With a soft unnerving ease
And all you've built around
May just tumble to the ground
We stand or fall
With your future in another's hands
We stand or fall
When your life is not your own
When white turns to red
In the not too distant days
Will force and misery
Be the life you have to lead?
We stand or fall
With your children in anothers world
We stand or fall
When your town is not your own
Chorus:
White China
White China
When crimson takes a hold
When the lights go down on all you've ever known
When all you'll ever do
Is worked out for you
We stand or fall
When the thoughts you have are not your own
We stand or fall
When the freedom slips away
White China"
