With the news of an Atlas Shrugged television being produced I've been hearing some tidbits about another production of Atlas Shrugged that was almost made before Part I. This of course, is the Angelina Jolie version that many people talked about adn was in trade papers everywhere at the time. This version never came to be and the screenplay hasn't been seen since.

Since most if not all of the other Atlas Shrugged screenplays of the past have been released in other forms, it would be great if we could get our hands on this screenplay as well. From this review it seems like it would be a great read, and their aren't many logical arguments against releasing it.

Interesting article but dated. I believe the TV series is the way to go. Atlas Shrugged is like a good meal. A good meal should not be rushed.

Oh, I believe RW is a Blackbelt in Karate. If there is anything I have said that causes any insult or embarassment to his person I would like to sincerely apologize. I am a few months older than RW and I can no longer even begin to understand what Bruce lee is doing in Enter the Dragon.

This article is dated but interesting even though it is old news. Take the story all the way back to the mid 70's and tell the full story. RW is a talented screenwriter. His best films were Man in the Iron Mask (version 439) and Secretariat. Braveheart was overly a Mel Gibson project. The other two mentioned concentrated on the story not the star.

The author of this 2011 article got a lot wrong, except for the part of Anjelina Jolie playing the part of Dagny wearing nothing but a bracelet of Rearden metal.

Regarding the prior script planned to star Angelina Jolie as Dagny, gag! This darling of the media is not her father, nor is she a conservative. She is a hack for the United Nations, and has promoted their works for several years. She and her village of confiscated children are about as liberal as they get.

    Never thought of this.
Is Angela a rebel Hollywood conservative like her father, Jon Voight?
I read that Angela is a vegetarian who said she would not provide Thanksgiving turkey for her hubby Brad Pitt.
Libtards having the rep of being stingy, Mr. and Mrs. Smith adopting so many children strikes me as something only rich conservatives would do. (Got a hunch I'm wrong).
So many kids. So little Thanksgiving turkey.

I don't care how great a screenwriter is. I don't think anybody can do justice to Atlas with a 2 or 3 hour screenplay; even with a nude Jolie. I am so glad she didn't play Dagny!

How could you say such a thing. mammaemma? Jolie is at least 3 times most other actresses.

          Three times ...

            3.
            times.
            what.
            ?.
gotta have a "as adjective" for the sentence to make any sense.
three times as beautiful? a matter of opinion and irrelevant.
three times as intelligent? certainly not proven
three times as much like Dagny in her personal life? see above.
answer the dad-ratted question! with an answer that makes some sense to people - male and female - who are not dazzled by lips and tits.

Obviously I was making a statement about how ineffective the use of 3 actresses was in AS when compared to having Jolie do the job by herself.
              Represented in mathematic terms
Jolie > Taylor Schilling+ Samantha Mathis+ Laura Regan

(At least it was obvious to me, winterwind ;^)

After I got my scientist husband to explain that mathematical term to me [I've always had trouble with it], you still have no specific, objective, clear REASONS for your attachment to Ms. Jolie.
                HERE. WITHOUT MATH.
Why [on earth!] doe you think she would make the best possible Dagny? Having the right look isn't everything, but she's so far from the fined-down, eager, achieving Dagny that the idea is purely impossible to understand.

I never said that she would be the best Dagny. I only said that she would have been better than all 3 that were Dagny in the AS movies combined.
I wouldn't have chosen Jolie, but she was the one that was chosen in the article, and imo the 3 Dagny's that we got in the AS movies were all lower quality than Jolie would have been. (That said, Jolie has played a variety of roles with more success than any of the 3 in the AS movies have done so far.)
There are quite a few actresses who would have done well: Diane Lane, Amy Adams, Anne Hathaway, Hilary Swank, Christina Hendricks, Elizabeth Banks, Rachel Nichols, Rachel McAdams.
(But definitely the same actress for all 3 movies.) Now its probably too late for Diane Lane for the mini-series though.
Who would you like to see?

I would like to see someone with no name and a huge amount of talent who could persuade me to believe she was Dagny, every single minute. Certainly, there's a certain look - I know of no face I've seen in the last 5 years that even begins to come close for me. Just like there has to be a certain body type, and voice and all the rest of it. But the absolutely necessary presence she has to have is that of Dagny - sure, brilliant, quick, unafraid, educated, striving, an unconscious perfectionist, very very sexy in the Lauren Bacall/Katherine Hepburn style, completely disinterested in "what people think". And that's only the part of the list that's in the front of my head right now.
I don't want someone to "play" Dagny. I have seen actors that convince you, from the very first minute, that they ARE the character. I saw an actor in the Colorado Shakespeare Festival a couple of years ago who was Prospero - I don't remember breathing, all the way through the curtain call. I was, literally, enchanted.
                    That's what I want.
