Inequality of Results: The Defining Issue of Our Time?
"Life will always be unfair. I want to play pro basketball. It’s unfair that LeBron James is bigger and more talented! It’s also unfair that George Clooney is better looking! It’s unfair that my brother is smarter than me."

The "achievement gap" idea is a big part of this and is defining the public education system. Currently, they are trying to minimize the gap by lowering the standards for all and we all know what the results are when that happens. They call it a 'gap' thinking it is something that can be fixed when in reality it is just this. Not everybody has equal skills or equal capacity. Some people are really good at math but cannot write a coherent sentence. I always ask people when they talk about this if they really want to live in a world where everyone is really, truly equal. There would be no Einstein, there would be no Bach.. they were all bad at SOMETHING but they were brilliant in other things which is what is important. If there is a kid who can function normally and knows everything they need to know but is just a bad test taker, why put them down and tell them they are "substandard". That is cruel in my opinion. Minority kids constantly being told they are "substandard" is what really keeps them from achieving. Well that was my rant for the day. Happy Wednesday!Mark as read | Best of... | Permalink|
