While the quiz question itself is surprising and appalling, what is amazing is that it went on for 10 years before some student and their parents finally found something objectionable.
I know that a school principle cannot personally evaluate every assignment and quiz/test, but there should be some very easy to implement measures that would prevent this idiocy. One that immediately comes to mind is to have multiple teachers review their course content with peers. All then would be responsible, and held accountable for inappropriate content. That would help to police such nonsense. Just a thought.

I haven't done that one but in my AP government I do a project where they discuss their political influences, interview their parents and then complete the online political compass. Sure hope I don't make the news.
It's not perfect but the students seem to get into it and the course is titled AP U S government and politics.
Edit: oh yea and do not mark students answers as wrong when asking an opinion and they chose one of your options!
Have fun!
