Was that really the best way to handle that situation? Couldn't they have gone to her home address when she calmed down a little? What if someone was killed?

If anyone but a policeman did those exact same actions they would be in prison. But because they were three men in costumes who had the implicit "sanction of society" they suffer no negative side affects.

It doesn't make any sense.
