Homosexuality and Choice

A recent study finds the correlation between identical twins and homosexuality doesn't support Same sex attraction is genetic. Although this then introduces choice the author of an article on these findings dismisses this as an alternative because eh doesn't differentiate between rational choice and irrational ( whim ) choice. These findings certainly cast a new light on what has been accepted as true.

Thanks for the link. The flaws in this come specifically from ignoring EPIGENETICS. We grant volition as a factor, certainly. As I said above, teenage twins differentiate themselves on purpose.

However, the Pastor Holland Davis is wrong when he says: "Because identical twins are always genetically identical, homosexuality cannot be genetically dictated. “No-one is born gay,” he notes. “The predominant things that create homosexuality in one identical twin and not in the other have to be post-birth factors.”

Indeed not. We know of factors that affect one twin but not the other that are linked to changes that occur after conception but before birth.

DNA is just the CORE, and attached to it, layers and layers deep are other chemicals that turn on or turn off gene expressions. Read about the Dutch Hunger Winter. The affects were inherited across two generations -- but only in SOME individuals. More on all that later. Just for now, based on current knowledge of inheritance, these claims are 50 years behind the science upon which they purport to rely.

Great post. It always amuses me how opponents of LGBT issues are almost always using information that is either wrong or outdated. What's worse, they have the gall to label their findings as "science," when in reality they're nothing more than pseudo-science.

It is interesting that there is any concern at all whether homosexuality is a choice or innate? If innate ( which seems to be the preferred by many advocates and/or practitioners, what then becomes of tabula rasa? If volitional, what
becomes of the response, I couldn't help , its just what I am. This must boil down to either/or.

Does this Pastor Holland Davis think that homosexual geese watched pornography as goslings?

homosexual geese? They probably didn't watch pornography, they probably just hung out with leftist humans.

When a dog humps another, it's dominance, not homosexuality. When a female dog humps your leg, it's dominance, not homosexuality.

Lots of the alleged homosexuality in the animal kingdom is not, in fact, homosexuality.

And so what if there are homosexual geese? It doesn't matter if it's a genetic flaw or a learned perversity... there's something wrong with that goose. Or person.

I am currently reading books on EPIGENETICS. Just for now the differences in outcomes between identical twins is much discussed. It would seem that genetically identical twins raised in the same home would be 100% identical. In fact, their standard IQ scores only correlate to 85%. Other significant measures such as self-esteem only yield 0.50 correlation.

These researchers ignore FREE WILL. No entry for "volition" exists in the indexes.

Working as a substitute teacher in a middle school, I had a set of twins in a science class. They dressed differently. They had different friends. They were 13 or 14. "I am not my twin" was the message. Adolescence is a time of personal discovery. It is why Ayn Rand's works go over so well with teens.

Rather than looking at twins in this generation, epigenetics suggests that we examine also at least the 2nd previous generation: their grandparents.

While Victorian gays might have reproduced by marriages of convenience, that seems insufficient given the universal experience across all cultures, indeed, across many (if not all) species.

Moreover, with some exceptions such as among Spartan and Zulu warrior elites, homosexuality is universally denigrated. Even if other cultures allowed or encouraged it, ours does not and has not for almost 1500 years.

They are called "faggots" because they were fed to the flames. And still more were born...
